Facilities for Sr.Citizens in IR |
like in other public services, the Indian Railways also extended certain facilities to senior citizens.
- Men who are minimum of 60 years of age
- Women of minimum 58 years of age.
- Both of the above are granted concession in fares of all classes of trains.
- the concession is 40% of the fare for men and 50% of the fare for women.
Apart from the concession in fares, certain other facilities are also extended to the senior citizens.
Concession:-40% of concession in fares for men over 60 years of age and 50% Concession for Women over 58 years of age.
Quota in Sleeper,AC3 tier,AC2 tier Coaches:- A combined quota of two (2) lower berths per coach earmarked in sleeper, AC 3 tier, AC 2 tier for Senior Citizens, Women over 45 years of age and Pregnant Women traveling alone.
Provisions for wheel Chairs at stations.
Provisions for separate counters at PRS centers for Senior Citizens.
PENALTIES FOR MISUSE OF THE QUOTA & CONCESSION

Modified Rules for Availing Senior Citizens Concession & Quota
(To be effective from 1st February,2016)
Current rule:- PNR status doesn't reflect the fare.
Modified Rule:-PNR status will now reflect the fare.
Current Rule:- If a passenger is found misusing the Senior Citizen Quota & Concession, he/she will be Charged the difference in fare(between full fare and concession fare).
Modified Rule:- If a passenger is found misusing the Senior Citizen Quota & Concession, he/she will be treated as a ticketless traveller and Charged accordingly.
Current Rule:-If a passenger is found misusing the Senior Citizen Concession only,he/she will be charged the difference in fare(between full fare and concession fare).
Modified Rule:-If a passenger is found misusing the Senior Citizen Concession only,he/she will be charged penalty in addition to the difference in fare(between full fare and concession fare).
